"Ayo"

"Ayo" in Indonesia means "Let's go", "Go On". Children follow their parents steps. This little lady is running late to arrive on time to the ceremony.

"Magical Lights"

The smoke and the back light became the perfect background in a quiet and warm afternoon.

"Wonderful"

It's always amazing to see how the old people are always busy. Specially if we compare them with our western countries where most of the people just sit on a chair waiting to die. This beautiful woman never stops. Until the last breath. Lovely.

"Coming Soon"

This woman is waiting for a new baby. I like pregnant women so much. When I let her see the picture she exclaimed: "I'm ugly". Nothing on earth is more delicated. Thank you Ibu. You are simply beautiful.

"Offering with My Mum"

As everyday, this young lady joins her mother to celebrate the offerings. This is how they learn the traditions. This time she saw me, and the box of matches she had on her hands dropped to the floor. Wonderful.

"Solitaire Boat"

One of my favorites times to go out with the camera is when is totally desert. Is then, when the composition of the objects spontaneously create the photo. It was raining again.

"Beautiful Poem"

This old lady posed for me and I asked her to hold in her hands some flowers. The combination of textures between them and how softly she hold the flowers, make this picture very special to me.

"Gooses"

As every animal living in Bali, they are free to move all around. However, thousands of birds live inside cages. They consider birds as an animal that gives good luck.

"Waterfall"

Many people don't have yet water at home. So when it's "mandi" time, as they have been doing during hundreds of years, the river is the place for cleaning themselves. Amazing.

"Lights & Shadows"

Again at Denpasar's Central Market, one of my favorites places. This woman, having only half left arm, doesn't imagine how beautiful she appears on the picture. God bless u Ibu.

"Rent A Car...or whatever"

Oh yes. I love Bali. No more comments.

"Peacefull Sleep"

I like to see people sleeping...specially children. Looks like if that time were the real life, where you are alone with your own dreams.

"Sweet Dreams"

Very close to Denpasar's Central Market. This mother and her two children are having a rest. It's so lovely to see how this young mother takes care of her children's sleep. And they are enjoying a very sweet dream... just on the street.

"To the Next Life"

When there's a traffic accident and someone dies, which is very often unfortunately, many people stop by. After covering the corpse with plastics or whatever they can find, the people "help" the family with some money. I got really surprised the first time.

"Inside Bali"

Out of the touristic routs is where I find the beautiful and always pictoric and photogenic inspiration. Lights and shadows creating a bucolic scenery.

"Rice Fields"

To me, is at the rice fields where maybe the essence of tradition appears strongly because of the straight connection with Mother Earth and the omnipresent rice.

"My Mum Protecs Me"

This mother and her little baby are having a rest in a very hot day at Denpasar. I found this image totally lovely and endearing. Doesn't matter if they are on the street. On his mother's arms he is gonna always be protected.

"Here I am"

This man and another friends hang out everyday, at the same place. One day I invited them for a coffee and we got a nice conversation about life.

"Before the Ceremony"

Takes some time to get everything ready before the ceremony. These young boys are having a rest before the great event.

"Blessing Water"

Water. This essential and necessary element for living, is of course used at any ceremony as a symbol of purification and blessing. Balinese people wash their faces and heads three times and drink it also three times.

"Sunset"

Magical moments that sunsets bring us very often during the year. This one, was the sunset before to "The Day of Silence". Extremely beautiful.

"I'm not in a Hurry"

I was fixing my bike in what is called "Bengkel". The mechanic was not in a hurry to work actually. So did I. Patience. "Sabar"

"Bicycle"

Bicycles are other of my favorites topics...and the people who drive them. The old ones are made by a very heavy metal, driven by old people are even more amazing to look at.

"Bamboo"

This incredible and useful material can be used in many different ways. From a water fountain until a main house. These are waiting to be sold perfectly organized at the warehouse.

"Bridge"

When you walk across this bridge and the tracks pass by, it shakes from one side to the other. This woman didn't look too worry about the movements of the bridge. I did.

"Tree"

Naked branches facing the sky at sunset time before "The Day of Silence".

"Shop"

At midday, the sun falls really heavy so it's time to protect the beautiful and delicate materials used for the ceremonie's clothes.

"A Whole Life"

This woman almost hast lost her vision. She doesn't even how old she is, but appears full of light and life. I think she is the best model I've ever had.

"Gallon of Water"

I'm always impressed with women carrying any kind of object over their heads. As in many other countries, the hard work is made by woman.

"The Way to the Oven"

Could be a dog, but it's not, is just a pig. This animal will became, sooner or later, what Balinese people call "Babi Guling", or Roasted Pork. By the way, delicious.

"Three Bales"

Few meters above, the ocean surrounds these "Three Bales". Again, is Ceremony time, and this is a good place to take a glass of coffee and a deep breath before praying.

"Old Balinese Woman"

It's like if her history were printed over her face and skin. And I suppose that happen to all of us. This woman suddenly appeared onto the road from the forest. Such an spontaneity. How much I would have liked to be in Bali 60 years ago...or more.

"Crosssing the Bridge"

One of these "magical" moments, when the naturality is even better than the best model. I was waiting this woman and her child while they were crossing the bridge. And is the Balinese woman looking back to the camera what makes this picture so special to me.

"Mother and Child"

This mother walks the streets looking for a hand of Rupiahs. Meanwhile, she has to feed her little boy who doesn't know yet her mother's hard life.

"Three Generations"

Past, present and future.

"Ready to Work"

A large file of spades are waiting to be used charging onto the tracks. Theses workers wait beside the roads for the next job.

"Mum, I'm Afraid"

What you can see is a kind of mobile restaurant or "Ronbong". The child join her mother at work time everyday, but today there is a stranger in front of us and he is taking pictures of us. Mum, do something please, I'm afraid!!

"Warung or Traditional Shop"

Took me more than 20 minutes to arrive to this image, helped with the car lightings turning arround the corner. This is a traditional shop or "Warung". Waiting for the next costumer, and watching life pass by.

"Misterious Woman"

I turned round myself and suddenly I saw an old woman looking at me at the top of the hill. She was not there few minutes before. Once again, man and nature in perfect aesthetic composition.

"Ancient Hands"

Hands are other of my "obsessions". To me, is a real mirror of the experience and history of someone. These hands belongs to a woman that couldn't tell me how old she was.

"The River"

Bali is crossed form North to South by rivers, and water is the base of life most of all because they need it for watering the rice fields. But unfortunately, the garbage is floating everywhere. This boy is looking for something with some value that after he can exchange for a hand of Rupiahs.

"Om Swasti Astu"

Traditional salutation of Balinese people.

Jul 3, 2007

"Upacara" or Ceremony

Outside the temples, Balinese can buy food and drink. "Sate" is a kind of brochette, usually from chicken, cooked with fire. And thanks to that cooking and mixed with the backlight of the sunset, appeared this nice image.

"Upacara" or Ceremony

Many are the ceremonies celebrated during the year. Women and children are my fovourites subjects. I can not look to any other place. I have a very deep admiration for these women, carrying over their heads those beautifull offerings in perfect balance and harmony. Chapeau.

"Upacara" or Ceremony

I took this picture this moornig and I couldn't wait to put it on the blog. Women and temples in perfect aesthetic connection. This is part of the magic of this work, when both parts become one.

"Coconut Juice Saler"

I love to walk the streets when is not crowdy...and this is difficult. Then is when use to appear people and situations like this one. I like very much these backgrounds. It Could be a theater.

"Kecak Dance in Action"

The image talks by it's own.

"The Queen"

It was at the largest "Kecak Dance" never preformed in Bali before. More than 5.000 souls + visitants at Tanah Lot's Temple, sunrise time. This woman sitting at the entrance of the cave where the snakes live, was so peacefully in calm and delighting herself with that amazing show.

"Falling Water"

Dozenes of rivers crosses Bali from North to South. Many people still having their daily shower in the rivers... Also they wash their clothes at the same time.
